This course is an introduction to Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. It will familiarize you with core concepts, various innovative use cases, different regulations, and the developing structures of the primary and secondary markets. The course is broken down into four modules, each including videos of distilled knowledge which are supplemented with additional material (in PDF format) and with glossaries that summarize terms and concepts covered. Each module covers different aspects enriched through a variety of examples.

What problem did Bitcoin solve and what are its attributes that have made blockchain part of the 4th industrial revolution. A narrative introduction to the world of Blockchains with a focus on the main attributes of decentralized peer-to-peer networks.

  • Learn about the basic concepts of these technologies – Consensus mechanisms, mining, and additional terminology.
  • Start familiarizing yourself with examples of cryptocurrencies – from Bitcoin to Brave.

Understand and differentiate Tokens by using four dimensions to classify them. Become familiar with specific examples of Tokens.

  • Learn about the use of Tokens for various purposes
  • Learn which jurisdictions have legal classifications of Tokens and how they differ
  • Learn about Tokens who derive their value from an underlying asset
  • Learn more about Tokens at the network layer or at the application layer.
  • Learn about Smart Contracts that are core to the creation of Tokens.
  • Learn about Tokens used in Finance and what DeFi (Decentralized Finance) is.
  • Learn about Tokens used in Computing, Data storage, Supply Chain, Labor markets, Music and Art.
  • Learn about Tokens for Identities and Voting; and the concept of Self-Sovereignty and Digital Governance.
  • Learn about the Primary market of Tokens and what are ICOs, IEOs, STOs.
  • Learn how Tokens are issued, and who is involved in the issuance process and in placing Tokens in the market.
  • Learn about the ecosystem for secondary market trading of Tokens.
  • Learn who is involved, what are the challenges, and what are DEXs.

She holds a Ph.D. in Finance, an MBA and an undergraduate degree in Mathematics. Her thesis focused on a Chaotic Approach to stock market returns. Efi has worked on Wall Street in the fixed income Sales and Trading operations of three major Wall Street firms. She started at Salomon Brothers in the fixed income derivatives department in researching and marketing structured products. She subsequently moved to Bankers Trust in the Latin American Emerging markets fixed income trading area, and concentrated in modeling Brady bonds and investing in Latin American local fixed income securities. She then moved to SC Cowen to build their local fixed income business. She lived through the derivatives Orange county crisis, the Mexican crisis, as well as the Russian and Asian debt crises of the 90s.

She is a published author of financial books with J. Wiley: (1) An emerging markets fixed income handbook co-authored with Frank Fabozzi (2002), Investing in Emerging Fixed Income Markets; (2) Local fixed income arbitrage, chapter in the Handbook of Emerging Fixed Income and Currency Markets.

Efi has worked as a European marketer for Dalton Investments, an LA-based hedge fund concentrating in Asian and distressed investment opportunities. Additionally, she taught Derivatives and Real Estate Finance at McGill University.
